Senior striker Scott Vieira (Staten Island, NY/Farrell) tallied a hat-trick and dished out an assist to lead the Valiants of Manhattanville to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Baruch on Monday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, Queens.
The game was evenly played through the first 34 minutes, but Manhattanville (7-5-1, 4-1-0 Skyline) erupted in the final 11 minutes of the first half to take a 3-0 lead.
Vieira had a hand in all three first-half goals, scoring the first two in the 35th & 43rd minute, and assisting on Bernard Keating's (Yorktown Heights, NY/Somers) strike just seconds before the end of the half.
Baruch (7-5-3, 4-0-3 CUNYAC) could have taken an early lead and changed the momentum of the game in the 11th minute, but a shot from 10-yards by freshman Jun Young Jeong (Bayside, NY/Bayside) hit the right post.
Vieira hit for the hat-trick in the 76th minute off an assist from Chris Mrytos (Scarborough, Canada/Dr. Bethune). The three goals give a career total of 59, which sets the school record.
Baruch scored their only goal of the evening on a header by Jeong in the 82nd minute. He knocked in the goal off a corner kick by freshman Nikolay Shnayderman (Orsha, Belarus/James Madison).
Manhattanville finished the evening with their fifth and final goal scored by Emmanuel Bondzie (Etobicoke, Canada/Saint basil's) in the 87th minute.
Manhattaville was called for 14 offsides in the non-conference game.
Baruch will finish the regular season portion of their schedule this Wednesday afternoon with a conference game against first place CCNY. Kick off at CCNY is scheduled for 3:30pm.
